Researching the G Class made me realize that there are not 1, not 2, but 3 trucks being built to this day that have their foundations and fundamental design rooted as far back 1979, 1983 and 1984. These are the G-Class, Defender (110 wagon) and 70 series land cruiser respectively. Though some are dying and all aren't offered in the US, if you could and were so inclined which one would you go out and write a check for right now?
Land Rover Defender 110
Land Cruiser 76
Mercedes Benz G Class Professional (461)
Tell me in the comments which of these dirty 30's trucks you would take home, and why.

G Class, only for those seats!
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:05 |

I can't confirm that is the current interior for the 461 profession, but its the best I could find. But hells yeah on those seats!

DAMN, that's a tough one. I honestly love all three of them and couldn't choose just one.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:10 |

Here we go. Looks the same to me:
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:11 |

Defender because I can yell "JDM AF yo" at anyone who asks why the steering wheel is on the right side
and because it looks the best
and is the best
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:11 |
|
I couldn't confirm this is current, but I hope it is.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:12 |

This right here, all day err day
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:12 |

I'd pick the Rand Cluiser.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:12 |
|
Positive and negative camber. #Stancelife, yo!
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:13 |
|
You can get an actual RHD JMD (yo) truck though....
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:13 |
|
I'm not a Land Rover guy per say but I would have to go with the Defender 110.
A Toyota Megacruiser on the other hand I would take over the rest.

Slammed and lifted.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:14 |

Well obviously, Mega Cruiser = Mega Awesome.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:15 |

you missed the joke
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:16 |

US Customs gotchu.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:16 |
|
yes, yes I did.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:17 |

G Class Professional
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:18 |
|
Why for?
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:18 |
|
Aside from it being the obvious best choice...why?
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:21 |
|
Did you know the backseat is holds 4 people? 2 buckets and a bench. I just found this out.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:22 |
|
I did! So much crazy with this thing.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:23 |

Land Crusher double cab truck, no questions asked.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:24 |
|
oh, your THAT guy, who writes in his own answers are you? 79 ute is an acceptable (ish) answer.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:32 |

The Land Cruiser. Out of the three, it would gather the least attention, would probably be the easiest/cheapest to repair, and I wouldn't be afraid of scratching its paint.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:34 |
|
I don't know about that paint part, its probably the most expensive of the 3...but fortunately, the paint is very thick and extra hard to resist scratching.

I didn't know it was technically a different series. I just Googled "70 series landcruiser truck" and got that. I stand corrected, and still stick with a 70 in any case.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:39 |
|
Same series, 76 is wagon, 78 is troop carrier, 79 is chassis cab (truck)
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:43 |

Duly noted, thanks.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:46 |
|
why do people keep saying these things
this legal thing is for sale right now and I need it http://www.defendersource.com/forum/f8/1986-…
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:46 |
|
then you wouldn't have responded the way you did
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:47 |
|
Looks nice, but cutting out the middle man would save a sizable proportion of monies.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:48 |
|
Well you already know my answere...
Although I'd get the 130 double cab because it will have a bed that is a useful size so more room for cargo and less need for trailer.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:48 |
|
That G-wagen. Because I'm me. And because it's awesome in its utilitarian form. Defender is a very close second however, especially if it's the newer style like pictured. The Toyota isn't even on my radar, because it's ungainly and again, I'm me.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:50 |
|
who is the middle man
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:53 |
|
mr. south carolina
![]() 02/24/2015 at 18:53 |
|
Oh really? Even if expensive, that's even more reason to want the Land Cruiser! :)
![]() 02/24/2015 at 19:00 |
|
I honestly don't understand
![]() 02/24/2015 at 19:02 |
|
I dunno, just like it.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 19:05 |
|
Because I could off road it like nobody's business, and still fit in at the country clubs I've never been to.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 19:17 |
|
Defender, because why would I bother learning anything new in that regard...
![]() 02/24/2015 at 19:21 |
|
Importer gets the car shipped over for the first time, 1st owner buys it. Then 1st owner sells it at a premium. Ex: Every R32.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 19:25 |
|
I'd comfortably pay $16k for this car though
![]() 02/24/2015 at 19:26 |
|
I'd be "that guy" and try to get him down.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 19:32 |
|
Defender. because it'd be a pure toy, and it's the most capable mudcrawler of the three. And I'd be expecting it to break anyway, so it wouldn't bug me if I broke it first (unlike the other two).
Also, because Landcruisers should come in 40 series - I'm not so fussy about Landrovers. And the Merc will never escape from the shadow of bling.
I'll take it in unicorn-spec V8 soft top 90 though, because Lara Croft.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 19:44 |
|
I mean, it would probably cost more overall to get it to the states by yourself AND be a lot more inconvenient. I'd rather just pay the damn premium and not have to go through all that trouble.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 19:49 |
|
Hmm, good point
![]() 02/24/2015 at 20:11 |
|
The benz.
![]() 02/24/2015 at 23:38 |
|
I think I'd take the landcruiser with acres of plaid interior.
![]() 02/25/2015 at 11:04 |
|
I think i would have to take a Defender....Specifically one made by these guys...
http://www.twistedautomotive.com/
Couldn't decide if i would go with a LS3 or similar engine...or something like a 5.9L cummins 6bt engine...or if that wouldn't fit maybe a 4bt cummins...
![]() 02/25/2015 at 12:31 |
|
If I had limitless funds, the defender. Its gorgeous and I've wanted one since I learned what it was.
Realistically, I would go with the Land Cruiser 76. Legendary reliability and not as pricey as the G-wagon.
I like the G, but it just doesn't instill the same level of excitement in me that the Defender or Cruiser do.
![]() 02/25/2015 at 12:34 |
|
You speak the logical truth.
If you want the romance, you buy a Defender
If you want something that just works, you buy the cruiser
If you want a G class, you buy a G class.
![]() 02/25/2015 at 14:50 |
|
If I get to modify Defender 110. If I have to keep it stock I'd take the Cruiser.
![]() 02/25/2015 at 14:53 |
|
I....didn't see that one coming.
![]() 02/25/2015 at 14:58 |
|
I've already modified a Cruiser! Gotta try something different.
![]() 02/25/2015 at 15:02 |

fair point.
